Substantial progress is being made on housing delivery in the western environs of Kilkenny City, local councillors have been informed.

At this month's full meeting of Kilkenny County Council, it was revealed that approximately 1,200 homes in the Western Environs either have permission granted, have permission incoming, or are actively being constructed (see table below).

In total, approximately 3,070 new homes are planned for the area long-term, as well as one primary and two post-primary schools.

The green light has also been given to construct a cyclist/pedestrian bridge between Coote's Lane and the Ring Road, improving access to the western environs.
