A derelict house and 46 acres of prime land nestled in the picturesque countryside of Dunbell in County Kilkenny recently sold for a remarkable €1.275 million at a highly-anticipated public auction.
The property, situated in the tranquil area of Dunbell, with its easy access to Kilkenny City and other attractive main routes, generated a lot of interest in the weeks leading up to the auction.
The level of demand was so unprecedented that two days before the auction the auction room had to be upgraded to accommodate the substantial number of interested parties.
With a guide price ranging from €800,000 to €1 million, it was to be sold in one or more lots.

The entire holding, featuring forestry land that gently slopes down to the River Nore and surrounded by mature trees on 46 acres, generated keen interest and filled the Club House Hotel room to near capacity with bidders and onlookers alike.
The property ultimately went in excess of the top end of the guide price following a lively round of competitive bidding and sold as the entire for €1.275 million.
Auctioneer Ed Donohoe of Donohoe Properties, speaking immediately after the auction, commented on the audience.
“We had an unprecedented crowd today,” he said. “It just goes to show when you have the right people in front of you and the right property in prime distance from Kilkenny City, the bidders will be there. A number of them are still seeking similar
properties that are close to the city but in country settings.”
