Kilkenny music and showband legend Liam Drennan passes away

The late Liam Drennan (RIP)

Tributes are being paid to a well-known Kilkenny musician and showband favourite, Liam Drennan, who has passed away.

Affectionately known as Liamy, he was a very talented player of both clarinet and saxophone. From St Fiacre's Place, he was the leader and central figure of the Black Aces, the immensely popular local showband started in 1958 which went on to great fame and success during the 1960s.

Mr Drennan died peacefully at St Luke's Hospital on Sunday. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary, and the beloved father of Annette, David, Jimmy and Molly. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, brother Larry, sisters Phyllis and Eileen, sons-in-law Mick and Thomas, daughters-in-law Lorraine and Helen, grandchildren Christopher, Catherine, Richie, Mikey, Amy, Adam, Robert, Brian, Tracy, Dylan, Orlaith and Aoife, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Reposing at his home on Tuesday, January 30 from 3pm with Rosary and Vigil Prayers at 6.30pm. Removal on Wednesday morning to St Patrick's Church arriving for Requiem Mass at noon. Funeral afterwards to Foulkstown Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
