RIP: Tributes to 'gentle' priest whose loss will be felt by many in Kilkenny

Fr Bernard's loss will be felt particularly by the members of L’Arche Community in Callan and across Kilkenny

RIP: Tributes paid to much-loved late priest from Tipperary

The late Fr Bernard Allon

The death has taken place of Fr Bernard Allon, a much-loved figure in Callan, Kilkenny and further afield.

Formerly of Hexham and Newcastle Diocese, UK, he passed away peacefully, in the loving care of the staff at Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick, Kilkenny, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

He was pre-deceased by his parents George and Ellen, and his brothers and sisters.

He will be deeply regretted and sadly missed by his sorrowing family, his sister Rita, his brother-in-law Barry, his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces, great- grandnephews, all the members of L’Arche Community, Kilkenny, his many friends in Ireland and abroad, relatives and neighbours.

Councillor Joe Lyons, based in Callan, has expressed his sincere sympathy to Fr Bernard's family and the local L'Arche Community.

"May his gentle soul Rest in Peace," he said.

Another touching message of condolence reads: "Ah! Beloved Bernard. You once said that you felt like a bird with a broken wing and that under that wing others could find shelter. So many people found shelter under your wings. Fly freely now dear soul. Many will be waiting to welcome you home."

Another post read: "Sending love and peace to all of Fr Bernard's family and friends. It was a gift to get to know Bernard through L'Arche Kilkenny many years ago. I remember his gentle nature, sincere hospitality, infectious smile and laughter, and kindness. He was a friend to all."

Fr Bernard left a lasting impression, evident also in this message from Luxembourg: "My heartfelt condolences to the family of Fr Bernard whom I got to know at the L’Arche Community in Callan many years ago.

"I remember his friendliness, his sense of humour and enjoyment and love of community as well as his appreciation of poetry and art.

"May Fr Bernard rest in eternal peace and may the good he passed on in his life offer comfort to you, his family and all his friends."

Fr Bernard will be reposing in Molloy’s Funeral Home, Callan (Eircode R95 Y443) on Thursday, March 12 from 4pm with funeral prayers at 6pm followed by removal to The Church of the Assumption, Callan.

His Requiem Mass will be on Friday, March 13 at 11am and burial will follow afterwards in Kilbride Cemetery, Callan.
