The Gaelscoil in Kilkenny City has been granted approval for funding for additional school accommodation, according to councillor Andrew McGuinness.
The accommodation will be in the form of an extension with one new mainstream class room.
Speaking to Kilkenny Live, Cllr Andrew McGuinness said he was delighted to see this notification from the Minister's office yesterday evening.
"It's very positive news for a fantastic school in Kilkenny City," he said.
"The additional classroom will be of great benefit to the school and I look forward to seeing the project delivered. I want to congratulate the principal, staff and management at the Gaelscoil for their hard work in ensuring the positive development of the school for the benefit of all its students.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to remind the Minister of the huge need for new schools in Kilkenny City, particularly on the Eastern environs, as many of the students in the city have to try for school places around the county due to such a shortage of places.
"One of the biggest issues facing families in the city at present is school places for their children so continued investment in our existing schools and forward planning for the development of new schools is essential."
