The awards ceremony itself was a testament to the diverse talents and accomplishments of the students

The Watershed was abuzz with excitement recently as the Presentation Secondary School held its annual awards event, a celebration of student achievements across various fields.

The day served as a glowing review of the school year’s highlights while exemplifying the core values of Presentation and CEIST.

The event began with a prayer and blessing from the school chaplain, Fr Dan Carroll, which was followed by a spirited rendition of I’m Still Standing by the combined junior and senior choirs. Masters of Ceremonies, Ms Brennan and Mr Fitzgerald, kept the event moving smoothly through the various sections, including student leadership, special categories, school attendance, year group class awards, subject award winners and extra-curricular acknowledgements.

The large school community was entertained by performances from the school choir, musicians and the TY musical dance group, while the school mascot made some appearances.

Special guest Tammy Darcy, CEO of the Shona Project, captivated the audience with her inspiring story. Tammy shared her journey of overcoming significant challenges during her teenage years, ultimately becoming a highly educated and award-winning social entrepreneur. Her message of resilience and empowerment resonated deeply with the students and underscored the event’s theme of celebrating perseverance and success.

Diverse talents
The awards ceremony itself was a testament to the diverse talents and accomplishments of the students. Awards were given for outstanding academic performance, exceptional effort and perfect attendance. Students who had shown remarkable leadership and those who had dedicated their time to volunteering and fundraising were also honoured, while students who had excelled in the extracurricular areas of sport, music and art were also presented with awards.

In a touching segment, three beloved teachers who are retiring this year were presented with bouquets as a token of appreciation for their years of service. Ms Knox, Ms Sparling and Ms Gallagher’s contributions to the school have left an indelible mark, and they were warmly celebrated by students and colleagues alike.

Principal Mr Hallahan concluded the event by announcing the Head Students for the next academic year to much excitement and applause. All in the school wish Morette Aylward and Iris Kavanagh the very best of luck in their new roles. The principal’s closing remarks were a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributes to making Presentation Secondary School a nurturing and inspiring place to learn and grow, reflecting the school’s commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also compassionate and inclusive.

The annual awards event at Presentation Secondary School was a vibrant celebration of the school’s achievements and values. It highlighted the strengths of the community and sets a positive tone for the year ahead. Congrats to all the awardees, and best wishes to the retiring teachers and newly appointed Head Students.
