Pictures: Students from across South Kilkenny celebrated at Abbey Community College awards night

Principal of Abbey Community College Michelle Jefford thanked all the guests for attending

Abbey Community College recently held its annual awards evening to recognise and applaud students who have excelled academically, creatively and in the sporting sphere over the past year.

Most of the major award recipients were all from south Kilkenny - Mooncoin, Glenmore, Slieverue, Kilmacow. Invited guests who presented awards were: Cllr Ger Frisby, Chairman of the Board of Management; Br Denis Minehane, Board of Management; Sr Mary Gough, Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary; Cllr Fidelis Doherty, Board of Management; and Mr David Phelan, Board of Management. A large number of staff were also in attendance and were honoured to step on stage to award students in their respective fields.

Parents and guardians of recipients were also in attendance. There were three musical performances throughout the evening: Sherwin Santo Samson Jose performed Scherzo Number One in B Major; Jamie Aldridge performed a beautiful rendition of Reverie by Claude Debussy and Molly Long, Callum O’Sullivan, Conor Lacey, Sherwin Santo Samson Jose and Jamie Aldridge collectively performed Adventures of a Lifetime by Coldplay.

Awards were presented to students across a wide range of disciplines: Student of the Year (Niamh Cuddihy), LCA Student of the Year (Heather Walsh), TY Student of the Year (Chloe Fardey), Sacred Heart of Mary Life Award (Jamie Aldridge), Sports Star of the Year (Caoimhe Phelan), Best Leaving Certificate 2023 (Andrew Murtagh), Best Junior Cycle Results 2023 (Caoimhe Barry), Academic Excellence Awards, Sixth Year Subject Awards, Sports Awards, Co-Curricular Awards and Special Recognition Awards.

Principal of Abbey Community College Michelle Jefford thanked all the guests for attending and went on to acknowledge the wealth of talents and successes in the school. She also thanked the staff at Abbey Community College for their continued enthusiasm, commitment and hard work.

"As we look back on this academic year and recognise the dedication of our students, parents/guardians and staff, we take great pride in our school community's unwavering commitment to embody and uphold our school ethos as we strive Together Towards Excellence," she said.
