Schools in Kilkenny and across the country have been invited to take part in the fun-filled quest to find 'Ireland's Fittest School 2025.'

One of Ireland's best-known Olympians, sprinter David Gillick has teamed up with Fyffes to encourage schools across Ireland to get involved in the programme which aims to promote the importance of health eating, fitness and exercise among young people.

The programme will return in 2025 and run for 10 weeks starting on January 20. A new element has been added this time around in which the top four schools from each province will go head-to-head across four live regional qualifier events in April.

The top school in each province will then go on to take part in the grand final in May where the winning school will receive a prize package of €8,000 worth of sports equipment.

One of the central features of the programme will be a series of exercise routines which were recorded by Gillick and Irish fitness trainer Sharon Flanagan. The competing schools can adopt these routines as part of their PE curriculum.

Some of the previous winners of the competition were Touraneena National School in Waterford in 2024, Gilson National School in Meath in 2023, and Scoil Na Croise Naofa in Donegal in 2022.

Perhaps 2025 will be Kilkenny's year!
