St Leonard's NS Dunnamaggin volleyball champions

St Leonard's NS Dunnamaggin became Girls 4x4 volleyball champions last Friday.

A total of 185 teams entered the competition this year, whittled down to 36 teams competing in UL for the finals. St Leonard's had three teams qualified, a boys, mixed and girls, an amazing feat for such a small school.

The group stages saw both the boys and girls teams top their group while the mixed were narrowly edged out at this stage.
The boys suffered a narrow defeat in the semi final by the overall winners.
The girls won their semi with ease and faced old rivals Pres' Thurles in the final. They never broke stride in the final, playing amazing volleyball to run out 21-5 winners.
It was the first girls' title for the school, having won the boys twice before. The crowd, parents, students and teachers celebrated wildly with the girls and cheered as they received the cup.
There was plenty of singing on the bus home, and a heroes' welcome when they arrived back to Dunamaggin - the home of hurling, and volleyball!
