Record-breaking athlete Peter Lynch visited St John’s NS recently where he raised the school’s recently awarded Active Flag at a special ceremony.
The Active School Committee promoted sports activities in the school throughout the year. Students completed the Active Breaks Everyday Challenge and they were encouraged to use the new Active School Walkway daily.
The school received whole school aquatics training through the PAWS programme. They were awarded a prize for the school’s active video entry for European Schools Sports Day.-1764769977115.jpg)
During Seachtain Na Gaeilge, Physical Education lessons were delivered through Irish. The school also participated in various sporting initiatives like The Skip Around Europe Challenge, Olympic Movement Break Challenge, a rugby blitz, cross-country competitions, badminton tournaments, mountain bike racing trails, hurling leagues and orienteering.

St John’s NS had partnerships with The Irish Heart Foundation, O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club, Kilkenny Rugby Club, Cycle Kilkenny, Róisín Hickey; An Your Rothar, Kilkenny Sports Partnership, Kilkenny City Harriers and Sport Ireland.
During the month of December the students can look forward to many more active activities like St John’s 12 Days of Fit-mas and Our Christmas Jumper Santa Run. Pupils will also participate in the Medieval Mile Run in Kilkenny.

Erasmus Visit
As part of St John’s NS’ Erasmus programme, Spanish teachers visited the school from Seville and El Ejido. Throughout the week the teachers observed a wide range of lessons on STEM, wellbeing, music, physical education, English, art, history and geography in the school.
“We are delighted to build connections with European schools,” teacher Alice Irish said.
