Kilkenny school principal 'genuinely knows her students and cares about them'

After two years as Acting Principal, Georgina Murphy has been appointed Principal of Duiske College in Graignamanagh.
Under Georgina’s leadership, Duiske College has continued to go from strength to strength.
For Georgina, education is not simply about academic achievement. It is about helping young people become confident, resilient, socially aware and, above all, happy young adults who are ready to take their place in the world.
That commitment to academic excellence has also produced remarkable results. Duiske College reached third place in The Irish Times’ leaderboard for progression to third level.
But academic success is only one part of the story.
Georgina believes passionately in providing students with opportunities to grow beyond the classroom. Through Erasmus+, students have the chance to experience education and culture beyond Ireland, including attending school in Antibes, France, while others have travelled to Madrid to coach football. Remarkably, these experiences are provided at no cost to students, opening doors to travel, cultural exchange, personal development and new friendships.
These opportunities capture Georgina's belief that some of the most important lessons happen outside the traditional classroom.
Perhaps the greatest testament to her leadership, however, is the way students respond to her. They greet her with genuine affection, stop for a chat and take an interest in what she is doing. There is a sense of mutual respect and connection that cannot simply be created through a school policy or strategic plan. It comes from a Principal who genuinely knows her students and cares about them.
