Mother of Fair Love School in Kilkenny recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special Mass of Thanksgiving attended by students, families, past and present staff and members of the wider community.
The celebration marked six decades since the school was established in 1966 by Bishop Birch, whose name is reflected in the birch tree that serves as the school's emblem.
The Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Ger Nash, Bishop of Ferns and Ossory, and Rev Dr Dermot Ryan, chairperson of the school's Board of Management.
A heartwarming atmosphere was evident on the day, with the event providing an opportunity to acknowledge the school's history and the contribution of generations of staff, students, families and supporters.
Following the Mass, refreshments were served, allowing those attending to reconnect, share memories and reflect on their experiences of the school.
Located on James' Street, Mother of Fair Love caters for students aged four to 18 with mild learning disabilities, providing both primary and post-primary education within the same setting.
The school places a strong emphasis on individualised learning, with each student receiving an individual education plan tailored to their needs. Alongside academic education, there is a focus on developing independent living skills and supporting students' personal development.
With the small class sizes and the level of individual attention that can be provided to each student, the spirit in the school community is one of family.
Principal Mary Cody described the anniversary as a wonderful day of faith, friendship and celebration, bringing together the school community to recognise 60 years of care, compassion and education.
The event also highlighted the school's longstanding role in supporting children and young people with additional educational needs across Kilkenny and the surrounding areas.
The anniversary celebrations brought together those who have been part of Mother of Fair Love's journey over the past six decades, while recognising the school's continued commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for future generations.
