Disappointment for Kilkenny in Oscar Traynor Trophy

Kilkenny suffered their first set back of this season's Oscar Traynor Trophy on Wednesday evening losing to South-East rivals Carlow.

Two first half Carlow goals from Brandon Kelly and Ryan Byrne set them on their way to the win on a cold but dry night.

Kilkenny's fortunes looked set to take a turn for the better right at the start of the second half when a Mikey Drennan delivery found Decky McQuillan who flicked the Carlow goalkeeper to bring the gap down to one.

However, despite pressure from the Kilkenny side, Carlow withstood everything thrown at them by Gary Maher's men and they sealed the win in the dying minutes with a third goal from Adam Steed.
