There were four games in the St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division last weekend with 18 goals shared out in what proved to be a goals bonanza in Kilkenny’s top tier.
- CALLAN UTD 4-3 DEEN CELTIC: Callan United earned their first win of the Premier Division season in a seven goal thriller at home to Deen Celtic on Sunday morning.
The whistle had hardly been blown when Deen Celtic took the ascendancy courtesy of Adam Reason.
Unfortunately for the men from the Prince Grounds, Jack Canavan had his scoring boots on and bagged a brace in the first half scoring in the ninth and 38th minutes respectively (2-1).
Deen Celtic never gave up the ghost and bounced back through Kealan Ring to level but with half-time approaching the home side regained their lead as Ronan Lavelle made it three goals in his last two games to make it 3-2 in what was a thrilling watch for spectators.
The goals dried up in the second half before a grand stand finish was served up.
Callan double their lead with five minutes to play before the ‘Comer team pulled a goal back deep into added time through Kealan Ring but it was too little too late with the hosts taking the three points.
- NEWPARK 2-4 FREEBOOTERS: Freebooters had to show all their metal to overcome the stiff challenge of Newpark in ‘The Bog’ with four goals all coming in the space of eight minutes securing ‘Booters’ first win of the season.
Newpark spearheaded the scoreboard at half-time through a well taken Tony Marques finish in a first half showing that warranted the advantage.
However, despite some disappointment at ’Booters’ 1-1 draw away to Deen Celtic on matchday one, last weekend they showed why they may be still Evergreen’s greatest challengers with netted finishes from Leon Hayes, Eoin Delaney and Bill Trehy stealing all three points between the 70th and 78th minute with a Ronan Walsh goal late on in vain.

- THOMASTOWN UTD 0-3 LIONS: In what may be a relegation six pointer even at this early stage of the season, Lions earned their first win of the campaign against a struggling and leaking Thomastown United defence who have yet to keep a cleansheet.
An Adam Power own goal on the 28th minute was the start of the Grennan team’s decline before two goals from Patrick Daly and John O'Brien sent the Lions roaring with joy on the road back to Durrow.
- BRIDGE UTD 1-1 FORT RANGERS: Bridge United recorded their second draw in succession sharing the spoils with Evergreen B and now Fort Rangers in a week.
A goal in either half from Craig Wall (Bridge United) and Emmet Nugent (Fort Rangers) leaves the teams in second and third respectively, with the Cuffesgrange men having played a game more.
