Domestic action was front and centre in the Kilkenny & District League last weekend with three matches played in the St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division.
As it stands, Evergreen and Fort Rangers are the two leading contenders fighting it out for top spot.
Last year’s McCalmont Cup champions Bridge United lie in third, seven points adrift of the Cuffesgrange outfit.
Meanwhile, Freebooters’ rocky season leaves the blues in the unusual surroundings of mid-table, with a 50% win record.
BRIDGE UNITED, 3, FREEBOOTERS A 1 - Bridge United leap frogged Freebooters and moved up to third in the Premier Division on Sunday morning with a commanding win over their visitors.
Freebooters made the better start and opened the scoring after 19 minutes as a Joe Banville ball presented Owen Hanney with a chance to score.
Bridge United’s Pierce Blanchfield swooped in for the game’s equaliser with seven minutes of the half remaining to leave the match in the balance at half-time.
It was the home team who drove on for the three points with Eoin Kavanagh and Connor English bagging goals over a three minute period (65th and 68th minutes) to take the spoils.

LIONS A 2, FORT RANGERS 4 - Emmet Nugent continued his prolific form in front of goal with a brace of netted finishes to help ‘Fort (2nd) keep the pressure on table toppers Evergreen.
Nugent, who has found the target 13 times in league football this season took a pass from Paddy Cahill to open the winners’ account after 12 minutes.
Lions drew level with 10 minutes of the half remaining courtesy of Cathal Jordan.
A second from Jordan for Lions cancelled out a Daniel Kenny goal just on the hour mark (2-2). However, Fort Rangers finished the stronger with Chris Phelan and star finisher Emmet Nugent securing the points.
EVERGREEN 1, DEEN CELTIC 0 - Evergreen returned to domestic action after bowing out of the Leinster Junior Cup with a hard fought win over a Deen Celtic team rooted to the bottom of the table.
David Grincell’s goal on the 42nd minute was all that separated the teams by the call of time.
