Kilkenny DL Round-Up: Freebooters B champions and Evergreen remain unbeaten

Freebooters B secured the Division 1 title on Sunday

Cup dreams ended, league ambition fulfilled and unbeaten runs maintained last weekend in the Kilkenny & District League with a full schedule of matches played across the county.

DIVISION 1:

Freebooters 4, Stoneyford United 0 - ‘Booters B clinched the title with three games to spare after dismantling Stoneyford United B on the Fair Green.

The home side are unbeaten so far in the second tier with a draw away to Tullaroan their only blot on the copybook so far this season.

Meanwhile, Damien Raggett’s Stoneyford (3rd) travelled to last weekend’s  encounter in mixed form with two wins,  two losses and a draw in their last five games.

However, Sunday morning’s  match ultimately proved to be a coronation for the champions with a hat-trick from Dan Oyewole. (37, 58 and 81 mins) and Oisin Dalton (92nd min) sealing the crown.

ST CANICE'S CREDIT UNION PREMIER DIVISION:

Deen Celtic A 1, Evergreen A 2 - They may be bottom of the division but Deen Celtic (tenth)  have arguably given the league leaders the most difficulty in domestic football so far this season.

After a narrow 1-0 win  earlier this season, Gary Maher’s side had to dig deep   to leave  the Prince Grounds with a 1-2 victory.

The ‘Comer team, whose only league win of the season came against Evergreen B  last month may have been dreaming of the unlikely results at half-time, leading by a single goal at the break.

But, in perhaps a season defining result, Evergreen showed why they haven’t dropped a single point so far in 2025/2026, with goals from Ify Nzewi (50th min) and Mikey Drennan (71st min) turning the tide back in their favour.

Deen Celtic’s woes were further compounded by two red cards in the second half dampening their spirits.

OTHER RESULTS:

Division 1 - Clover United 0, Castlewarren Celtic 1.

Freshford Town 1, Spa United 1.

McCalmont Cup - Evergreen B, 4, East End United  5.

Bridge United 2, Callan United 1.

Maher Shield - Bridge United B 3, Callan United B 3 (4-2 pens).
