Soccer gets one last kick out of 2012!

The Kilkenny & District League’s Oscar Traynor Trophy team were due to take on Waterford in their final group game this Sunday. However, that game has been postponed as a previous round’s clash between Tipp and Waterford has yet to be played.

Rather than get the weekend off, several top flight clubs will now get the chance to play on the last Sunday of the year. Reigning champions Evergreen A travel to Goresbridge for a meeting with Bridge United A, while their B team head for Durrow and a clash with Lions A, who are currently second in the league standings.

There could also be an entertaining outing at the Fair Green, where Freebooters A take on their club-mates Freebooters B. Victory is a must for both sides, but with very different reasons - Booters A need a win to keep on the trail of table toppers Thomastown United A; should Freebooters B take all three points they’ll move out of the relegation zone.

There will also be a full complement of games in Division One, where first-placed Southend United travelling into the city to face second-placed AC Kilkenny. East End United, Urlingford, Newpark and Spa United, all part of the chasing pack, will also be in action on Sunday along with Stoneyford United and Highview Athletic.

There are four games also in Division Two. Despite being one of two teams not playing - St John’s A are the other - Tullaroan will go into 2013 at the top of the table thanks to a five-point cushion they have on second-placed Freshford Town. There is also one game to be played in Division Three, a schedule which was halved after St John’s B withdrew from competition.
