A NEW season of the Floodlit League will kick-off in Kilkenny next week.

The campaign begins on Monday with a full round of games. The league competitions will begin for the teams from Divisions Two and Three, while the top flight sides will contest the first round of the Division One Cup.

Once again the Floodlit League will feature 32 teams this season (12 in Division One and 10 apiece in Divisions Two and Three). There are seven new sides in the competition - Cleere’s Bar Gowran, Brett’s Mullinahone, The Average Joes, Brennan’s Bar Johnswell, Amby’s Bar Ballingarry, Valley Ramblers and Team of Gary Breen FC.

The league, which raises money for Enable Ireland at the O’Neill Centre, will be sponsored by Kevin Morrissey of Morrissey Motors. The opening round of fixtures are:


Division One Cup

Morrissey Motors v Manning Travel, 9.30pm Loreto.

Crutt Utd v ML Dons, 8.30pm Loreto.

Kells FC v Grogan’s Bar, 8pm Scanlon Pk.

Glendine Inn v Egan’s Bar, 9pm Scanlon Pk.

’Booters AGM

The schoolboys’ and schoolgirls’ section of Freebooters will hold their annual meeting in St Mary’s Day Care Centre this evening (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.
