KILKARE simply had too much class and football know-how, and they reflected it on the scoreboard when the dished out a 34-point hammering to Kilkenny in the Leinster minor football championship at Ballyragget tonight (2-29 to 0-1).
The winners never had to unduly exert themselves as they caught hold of the game from the opening minute. Within two minutes they had 1-2 to no score on the ’board.
Virtually from the throw-in Aaron McConville kicked a point after Rory McDermott and Jamie Connolly worked the ball up the field. Mark Sheery was then foot blocked as he tried to get in a shot at goal. Kildare penalty! Ben McCormack sent the ’keeper the wrong way, 1-1 to no score.
There was no hope for Kilkenny after that. The visitors continued to pound away. At half-time Kildare led by 2-15 to 0-1. The lone Kilkenny point was scored by centre-back, Jason Byrne.
