Kilkenny Cancer Support Centre Cois Nore's new fundraiser will see their mascot, Canice the Cat, walking virtually from Kilkenny, Ireland, to Kilkenny, Minnesota, USA.
Canice will set out on his 6,040km journey on Friday, May 2, and Cois Nore are calling on people to help get Canice to his destination to raise much-needed funds for Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre.
Participants can donate €20 and sign up to do a 5-kilometre walk, run, swim, move however and wherever they want. Every kilometre will be added to Canice’s progress across the Atlantic, which Cois Nore will be tracking and sharing on their website and social media platforms.
The event is supported by The Kilkenny Lion’s Club and has already drawn participation from the Nore Dragon Paddlers, Marble City Cyclists, Fitness Coach Dee Murphy and TJ Reid Gym.
“We look forward to mapping Canice the Cat’s progress along his route to Minnesota and to see groups, clubs, schools and individuals across Kilkenny get moving this summer to help Cois Nore.’ said Cois Nore Fundraising Coordinator, Sheila Murphy.
Cois Nore Chairperson, Bill Cuddihy said, ‘We are working in partnership with the Lion’s Club to bring this event forward and very much appreciate their support as well as the support of the clubs and individuals who have already committed to taking part.
"We hope that all the clubs, community groups, businesses and people across Kilkenny will get behind this. This is a crucial year for Cois Nore, the refurbishment of our new premises is underway and we hope to be in by the end of the year’.
