New school bus service secured for busy Kilkenny national school

TD Peter 'Chap' Cleere: Fantastic news for the families of Knockmoylan and area around Ballyhale

KILKENNY

The community has flagged a shortage of bus places repeatedly over the years

A brand new school bus service will be in operation for Ballyhale National School during the forthcoming academic year.

Local TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has welcomed confirmation from Bus Éireann and the Department of Education after making strong representations for a dedicated route to meet the huge demand. The announcement comes after ongoing engagement between Deputy Cleere, local councillor Jenny Catt Slattery and Minister with Responsibility for School Transport Michael Moynihan in recent months.

It has been raised repeatedly as an issue in recent years, with some children unable to secure a seat on the schoolbus.

“This is fantastic news for the families of Knockmoylan and the surrounding area," said Deputy Cleere.

“School transport has long been a concern for rural communities, indeed in Knockmoylan it has been a serious issue going back for almost a decade. Former TD Bobby Aylward started the ball rolling on trying to get a resolution on this issue many years ago, and I’m delighted that the need here has finally been acknowledged and acted upon.

“I want to thank the families who engaged early with Cllr Catt Slattery on this matter. Their timely action helped ensure that this service could be progressed without delay. I will continue to work closely with the Department and Bus Éireann to ensure this new service is in operation as soon as possible.”

Once procurement is finalised, the families involved will be contacted directly with further information.
