Hopes that a link can be forged between the new South East Greenway and the scenic village of Inistioge have taken a step forward with the announcement of funding.

An allocation of €100,000 has been made to fund a feasability study, looking at the possibility of a formal walking and cycling path from Inistioge to New Ross.

The grant was made available by Transport Infrastructure Ireland to support local authorities to create new local amenities and open up new, sustainable tourism offerings.

The South East Greenway, which will eventually link New Ross to the Waterford Greenway, is scheduled to open its first stretches this summer.

Local councillors have called for the establishment of a safe link between the Greenway at New Ross and parts of south Kilkenny.

Welcoming the funding Minister Malcolm Noonan siad the routes identified will prove extremely valuable, not just to local people in providing sustainable connectivity and new local amenities, but with any greenway you have the opportunity too to bring sustainable tourism to the area.
