Generous people have rallied behind a Kilkenny couple who have been left with ‘just the clothes on their back’ after a fire caused severe damage to their home.

Patrick and Maria Walsh’s home in Dunkitt, Kilmacow, was engulfed in the blaze, over the weekend.
“They have been left in the position of absolutely everything they owned and cherished being burnt to a crisp and being left with only the clothes on their back which doesn’t even include a pair of shoes,” according to Mandy Lynch, who has set up a fundraiser to help the couple.

Mandy explained that due to illness and financial issues Patrick and Maria have no home insurance.
“Maria suffered a severe brain injury a few years ago which resulted in Patrick leaving his lifetime job in Irish Rail and becoming a full time carer for Maria. Patrick has recently being diagnosed with cancer and has just undergone radiation and, in the next few weeks, (will be) undergoing major surgery.”

Within 24 hours the appeal for the popular couple has raised almost €8,000. To support the fundraiser go to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-for-ill-couple-whose-house-burnt-down
