LATEST: New updates provided on the Kilkenny section of the South-East Greenway

Kilkenny County Council has outlined a number of improvement works completed or currently in progress on the Kilkenny section of the South-East Greenway at the most recent sitting of the Piltown Municipal District.

So far, of the 24kms of the overall greenway, some 14kms are now completed or substantially completed with excitement particularly high in South Kilkenny.

The latest addition locally is a brand new South East Greenway Mural. The 160m long public art installation is located near Ferrybank on the South East Greenway which runs between Waterford and New Ross.

Funded by the Creative Ireland Scheme and inspired by the local area, the mural captures key landmarks such as The Pope’s Tower and Ferrybank Grotto and was designed and painted by Street Art Ink, who took on board feedback from public consultation events with local community groups.

Meanwhile, works are continuing apace on the Nore Valley section of the Greenway which will connect Woodstock in Inistioge to the ever growing route is now under way and is currently in Phase 1.

A first public consultation has been completed with a feasibility report in progress and potential route options being explored presently.

Elsewhere, efforts are continuing to identify potential funding streams to advance the Greenway link to Slieverue project and is at the detail design, land acquisition and construction stage.

In Glenmore, Kilgallen & Partners have commenced work on the detail design including procurement of surveys for the area’s future connectivity to the route. Discussions with the relevant parties have recommenced regarding the acquisition of lands required to deliver the project in the area.
