A main approach road into Thomastown will remain partially closed until the end of this year because of ‘significant issues relating to subsidence’ with the quay wall alongside the river.
The R700 is closed to traffic coming from the New Ross direction, with a stop-go system in place.
At the recent meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District councillors, area engineer Declan Murphy informed them that consultant engineers have already been engaged to find the best solution to the issue.
Cllr Deirdre Cullen said the public do realise the road has been reduced to one lane because it’s a health and safety issue.
“This is a matter of public safety and I think the community understands that,” she said.
A temporary traffic light system had to be placed on the road in the middle of August and is scheduled to be in place until the end of December.
