Many residents voice concerns over proposed housing scheme in Kilkenny

Plans for the development of 13 residential units (including a two-storey apartment block) at Ashgrove in Slieverue in South Kilkenny have been met with reservations from various nearby residents.

The proposal for the development was recently published by Kilkenny County Council and opened to public consultation.

In one of the 11 submissions (including 10 from Ashgrove residents), a resident stated that the development is ‘going to take the look off of Ashgrove’ and that ‘it is totally not in keeping with the streetscape’.

Another resident alleges that the proposal in its existing form ‘conflicts significantly with several key policies and objectives outlined in the Kilkenny City & County Development Plan 2021–2027’.

Concerns were also raised about issues such as housing density and traffic.

The submissions will be reviewed but it remains to be seen if any alterations will be made by the local authority.
