Why make a Will?
If you want to have a say over who inherits all or part of your estate, you should make a will.

A will is a written document that sets out what you would like to happen to your possessions after you die. A will must be signed and witnessed, therefore it's always best to seek advice from a legal firm who specialise in Will and Probate as they will make sure its legally valid.

Here are some key points on what makes the Will valid:

  • The will is in writing
  • You are over 18
  • You are of sound mind
  • You sign or mark the will or confirm that you made the signature or mark in the presence of two witnesses, present at the same time if possible (the witnesses do not have to see the contents of the will).
  • Your two witnesses sign the will in your presence
  • The signature or mark is at the end of the will

We’ve listed out 5 benefits for make your will:

  • You retain control over who benefits from your estate
  • You can leave specific bequests to particular family members or charities
  • A will gives you the opportunity to appoint testamentary guardians for minor children who you are the current guardian for
  • You can change your will as many times as you like
  • The existence of a valid Will greatly reduces the timescale, the complexity, and the cost of administering your estate
