Challenging campaigns in store for the Cats

All-Ireland senior camogie champions Kilkenny have been off enjoying a well-deserved team holiday over the last week or so, but it will be soon time to get back to business with the Very Camogie League’s kicking off next month.

Brian Dowling’s senior side will take their place in Division 1A alongside Clare, Galway, Dublin, Cork and Tipperary while the intermediates compete in Division 2B with games to come against Galway, Tipperary, Wexford and Cork.

The 2023 league structure has been revamped after there was a lot of criticism with how last year’s shortened campaign played out. With plenty more games on offer, it looks a good decision from the authorities.

The Cats last won the senior league title in 2021 and while they would love to replicate that success, they will also be pleased to get at least five competitive games ahead of the defence of their Leinster and All-Ireland titles over the summer months.

The seniors kick-start their campaign away to Clare with three of their next four games (Galway, Cork and Tipperary) taking place on home soil.

While it was All-Ireland glory for the Kilkenny senior side in 2022, the Intermediates had a rather disappointing campaign. They will look to get back to the highs of their All-Ireland final appearance in 2021.
