Main Man
On his second start after being named Kilkenny senior hurlinbg captain , Eoin Cody was very much to the fore as he scored 2-2. The former young hurler of the year took his goals well and was influential throughout. As well as Cody, the likes of Padraig Walsh, Cian Kenny, Paddy Deegan, Conor Delaney and Billy Drennan all stood out with decent displays.
Highlight
The way Kilkenny dismantled Dublin in the opening half can only be seen as a huge positive. The Cats never let the Dubs breath and forced them into mistake after mistake as well as scoring 17 points. It was also a half where Kilkenny scored with every shot as they proved very efficient in front of goal.
Talking Point
Coming into the game Dublin had put in decent displays albeit non winning ones against Waterford and Tipperary. A fair contest with a bit of league context was expected but the opposite resulted as the Cats outclassed Michael Donoghue’s team all over the field.
Turning Point
It seems mad to suggest that a miss in the first minute would prove to be the turning point but on this occasion it’s the truth. Dublin corner forward Alex Considine blocked an attempted Eoin Murphy clearance but when claiming possession he could only fire the sliotar into the sidenetting and Kilkenny took control of the game afterwards.
What’s next
The final round in Division 1B Kilkenny sees play host to Waterford in UPMC Nowlan Park next Sunday while Dublin face off with Laois in Parnell Park.
