In among all the enthusiasm about the Kilkenny senior hurlers appearance in the upcoming All-Ireland final, it would be easy to forget that the county’s junior footballers are also set to defend a title of their own with the All-Ireland junior football championship taking place later this week.
The Cats’ footballers had their own final winning day in Croke Park last year when they beat New York in the All-Ireland Junior decider.
Mick Kenny and Jamie Holohan scored goals as Christy Walsh’s team claimed 3-12 to 1-9 victory.
It was only two days previous to that win when Kilkenny beat London in the semi-final - that four team competition will again commence and be completed over this coming weekend.
Both semi-finals take place on Friday evening in Abbotstown. New York face Warwickshire at 5.30pm while Kilkenny face off against London at 7.15pm. The final will be held in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm and will act as the curtain-raiser to the All-Ireland senior football championship semi-final between Kerry and Derry.
