Shane Walsh hit 3-4 as Tullaroan bounced back to beat Mullinavat Picture: Willie Dempsey
A powerful scoring performance helped Tullaroan erase the pain of an opening day loss as they picked up their first points of the Kilkenny senior hurling league at the second attempt.
Shane Walsh was their star man, helping himself to 3-4 as last year’s league champions blasted past Mullinavat at John Locke Park on Friday evening.
Quick to take control, Tullaroan led 0-7 to 0-1 by the 10th minute, extending their advantage when Walsh crashed home a clever shot in the 12th minute. With Gearoid Dunne adding a second big score on 24 minutes, they looked well in command when they went in 15 points clear at half-time (2-13 to 0-4).
Mullinavat tried to raise their spirits in the second half, opening the scoring with an Ian Duggan free, but a run of 3-4 without reply in 13 minutes rocked them to their core. In a dazzling spell goals from Walsh (2) and Mossy Keoghan did most of the damage as Tullaroan romped to victory. The Vat didn’t give up, Adam Mansfield netting a good goal after that, but it was too little too late to catch the winners.
