Kilkenny's Peter Lynch has been named on a five-strong road running team for international action.

Lynch is part of the Athletics Ireland team who will compete at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia from September 30 to 1 October 1.

The Kilkenny City Harriers athlete, currently in Tulsa, will compete in men's half-marathon. He tried his hand at this distance in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in Houston Texas in January of this year, crossing the line in a phenomenal 1:03:22

Shona Heaslip and Fionnuala Ross will compete in the Women's Half Marathon. Shona comes into this event on the back of a life-time best performance in Larne of 1:10:35. Two-time Olympian Kevin Seaward will lead the men's contingent in the half-marathon, joined by Lynch and Hiko Haso Tonosa.

Athletics Ireland has established the Selection Criteria consistent with its High Performance vision of “more athletes winning on the world stage”, while simultaneously acknowledging the role of the World Athletics Road Running Championships as a qualification opportunity for major championships including the 2024 European Championships and 2024 Olympic Games.
