Camogie- Dowling double does the job for ‘Boro juniors against Piltown

A pair of second half Kate Dowling goals paved the way for Dicksboro to overcome the challenge of Piltown on a super sunny Sunday in Hugginstown, home of Carrickshock GAA.

It was a very close game until that time Dowling got her double in the 41st and 49th minutes, with the steady free taking of Chloe Holden matching the exploits of the equally steady Sinead Carroll from Dicksboro.

Dicksboro had opened the scoring in the 5th minute through the impressive Rose Kelly as she put the ball over Maire Beth Kirby’s crossbar from out on the right hand side of the pitch.

Edel Long hit the reply for Piltown as she went down the right wing and put the ball over the bar at the scoreboard end.

It was a running game as the ball was worked between the lines, a lot of ball to hand, and low ball into the forward lines, but both defences were on top and scoring opportunities were scarce, but Piltown forward Chloe Holden got free on the left hand side and hit a fine point over the bar.

Rose Kelly was creating trouble with her running on and off the ball and kept Rachel O’Shea and Fiona Downey busy, Kelly did score her second point in the 21st minute to level the game again.

Chances were scarce, and when they arose they had to be taken, and when Sinead Carroll got the chance from two frees, she took them to put the Boro two points ahead approaching half time.

Piltown then got a chance from a free right on the interval through Chloe Holden and she took it and left the score at half time, Dicksboro 0-4 Piltown 0-3.

Referee Paul Hunston restarted the game and Dicksboro attacked coming down their right side as Emer Phelan got past Sophie Long and then Lisa Norris to put the ball over the bar.

Piltown tried to call with surging runs forward from Eden Long, Ciara Dunne and Leah Cooney as they tried to turn the game in their favour.

Angela Carroll and Danielle Kenny stood tall in the Boro defence though and restricted the scoring in the second half to one pointed free from ChloeHolden. Kate Dowling then took over the scoring as she grabbed goals in the 41st and 49th minutes to put the team in maroon ahead, and she finished it off with a point on the stroke of full time.

It was a pity for Piltown to be missing a few key players due to the Senior game the previous day, but the girls that lined out put on a good performance.

Final Score- Dicksboro 2-6 Piltown 0-4.
