Young guns lead the way as Tullogher Rosbercon claim junior hurling glory

The Junior Hurling Championship winning Tullogher-Rosbercon team

Tullogher-Rosbercon claimed a sixth ever JJ Kavanagh and Sons Junior Hurling Championship title when running out five point winners over St Lachtain's of Freshford in UPMC Nowlan Park.

An opening half Danny Glennon goal proved crucial and with Walter Walsh, Marty Murphy and Cian O'Donoghue all scoring heavily, the South Kilkenny team were able to hold off a second half comeback from St Lachtain's.

Ultimately the Freshford boys left themselves with too much to do as they trailed by seven points after Glennon's goal and they probably relied a little too much on Cathal O'Leary for scores.

St Lachtain's managed to get back to within a point on  a couple of occasions but a youthful Tullogher outfit finished the stronger and with four of the last five points, they had more in the tank to see out the victory.

Glennon hit two superb efforts from play during this spell while Marty Murphy and Cian O'Donoghue also pointed and while Freshford tried to work a late goal, the Tullogher defence that was led by Pat Hartley stood tall  to mark their return to the intermediate grade after a few seasons away.

There was fantastic scenes afterwards as a boistrous Tullogher crowd celebrated and while they'll enjoy the next few days, they will be back in action again next weekend in the opening round of the Leinster Championship.
