Ashley Godden (Far Right) of Kilkenny Swim Club has been named the county’s Volunteer of the Year
Ashley Godden of Kilkenny Swimming Club was named the county’s recipient of the 2023 Volunteers in Sport Awards.
The award, which is supported by the national network of local sports partnerships, recognises the depth and breadth of volunteering in sporting communities nationwide.
Ashley Godden has been a valued member of Kilkenny Swimming Club for 15 years. In his current role as club treasurer, he brings professionalism and expertise. Alongside an impressive contribution with the Leinster Regional Committee, at national level, Ashley is a familiar voice poolside and is always happy to manage medal ceremonies. When officiating at regional and national events, his voice as the announcer is reassuring to the Irish swimming community. Ashley is always available to advise and mentor and is happy to give direction or a listening ear.
The volunteers will be celebrated at a national awards ceremony in Dublin on February 29.
The economic significance of volunteering in sport cannot be overstated, it has an estimated value of €1.5 billion annually to the Irish economy. This figure underscores the immense social and economic benefits derived from the invaluable contributions of volunteers across the Irish sporting landscape.
“We are looking forward to celebrating the exceptional contributions made by volunteers in sport from all over the country,” said Federation CEO Mary O’Connor. “Working behind the scenes volunteers play a crucial role in fostering community engagement, promoting physical activity, and driving the success of sporting events nationwide. The awards promise to be yet again another remarkable event acknowledging the time and passion of those involved in sport locally and to say, ‘thank you’ for their dedication.”
