Kilkenny swimmer to take part in European Championship

Abby Cunningham

It is big week for Kilkenny's Abby Cunningham who competes in the 2024 European Aquatics Junior Open Water in Vienna.

The event itself is on in the Austrian capital from July 12th – 14th.

Cunningham is swimming 5k which is scheduled to start at 11.05am on Friday which consists of four laps of 1.25k.

This is the shortest distance at the Championships. There are 7.5k and 10k events also on over the weekend.

Abby qualified by being the first in her two year age band in both the Irish Open Water 5k Championships in Lough Lene last July.

Plus Abby was also first in her age group in the 1500m at the McCullagh International in Bangor earlier this year.

In preparation Abby has been combining pool based training with a little open water. On arrival in Vienna she will swim on the course alongside her Swim Ireland teammates.

Stay tuned to Kilkenny Swimming Club social pages for updates on how Abby does.
