Tullaroan goalkeeper Paul Buggy made three top class saves to keep his side in front PICTURE: SPORTSFILE
Three top class Paul Buggy saves helped Tullaroan make a winning start to Kilkenny senior hurling league.
The netminder delivered a hat trick of impressive stops in as many second half minutes as Dicksboro were thwarted in their attempts to snatch the points in the opening round of the competition.
After watching his side fight their way in front thanks to Ciallin Brennan’s second goal of the evening, Buggy made sure they stayed there. First he raced out to stop Matthew Kelleher’s 47th minute shot before, 60 seconds later, stopping a Harry Shine effort. The third save was the best, Buggy diving to his left to stop another Shine rocket in the 49th minute.
The saves came at a vital time for Tullaroan, who had led at half-time (2-10 to 1-12) thanks to first half goals from Gearoid Dunne and Ciallin Brennan, those scores cancelling out Harry Shine’s opener.
Dicksboro fought back after the break and, led by Kevin Moore (2) and Shine edged ahead, but Brennan’s second goal and those Buggy saves, along with some late points from the hard-working Mossy Keoghan, ensured the evening was Tullaroan’s.
