Lisdowney made it two wins from two when they beat Conahy Shamrocks on Friday evening
A confident first quarter display helped Lisdowney wrap up their second win of the Kilkenny intermediate league on the spin.
Scoring 1-4 without reply helped ease them into a position opponents Conahy Shamrocks couldn’t reel in at Canon Kearns Park on Friday evening.
Conahy took until the 15th minute to open their account with a James Bergin point - by that stage they were seven behind, Liam Dunphy’s goal giving the winners a strong advantage (1-4 to 0-1).
Led by a great display from midfielder David O’Carroll they kicked on, with Kevin Sweeney, Richard McEvoy and Dunphy (0-4 frees) grabbing points before Brian Kavanagh ended a searing solo with a fine goal on 29 minutes. Senior county hurler Tom Phelan, Kieran Mooney and Eoin Cahill led the Conahy charge, but they would have a lot to do after the restart (2-11 to 0-7).
Conahy did raise their game in the second half, but a little scoring burst around the three-quarter mark set Lisdowney up for victory. Points from Dylan Jordan, Niall Brennan, Dunphy (free) and Andrew McEvoy were followed by a fine goal from Luke Holohan, leaving the scoreboard reading 3-17 to 0-11 after 46 minutes.
Conahy never gave up, grabbing a late goal through sub Gary Dunne, but the winners were always out of reach. See next week’s People Sport for match report.
