Intermediate Scratch Cup winner Paddy Fitzpatrick with Club President John King
Paddy Fitzpatrick, a long time senior member of Kilkenny Golf Club, was a very popular winner of the recent Intermediate Scratch Cup.
Paddy shot a 76 gross to win by four clear shots, and while a 76 is in itself a superb score, it’s not that uncommon.
But when one considers that Paddy is 86 years old and bettered his age by ten shots, it puts into context what a truly phenomenal score this was.
After an unremarkable front nine, Paddy pulled out all the stops and played the back nine in a fabulous one under par, including back to back birdies on the notoriously tricky 15th and 16th.
Paddy won the cup by four shots and was the only player out of a field of over 150 competitors to break 80.
Many congratulations from all at Kilkenny Golf Club, a result for the record books!
