Main Man
Cathal Hickey (St Lachtain's)
After suffering a punctured lung in an Under 21 Final before Christmas, even getting to Croke Park was an achievement for Cathal Hickey. Not only did the flying wing back make it to GAA HQ but he also starred as he scored two points from play in a briliant display given the circumastances. Darren Brennan, Brian Kennedy, Alexander Rafter and Mark Donnelly were others that performed admirably.
Talking Point
This was a controlled display from St Lachtain’s as they produced their best display of the season with 12 players making their mark on the scoresheet and even more impressive was the fact that all but three points arrived from open play over the course of ther 60 minutes.
Turning Point
The first half was tightly fought and took it's time to come to life but Shane Donnelly's 23rd minute goal gave the Freshford boys a buffer on the scoreboard that they would refuse to relinquish throughout the remainder of the game.
Highlight
It proved to be a nice bit of symmetry to Freshford’s All-Ireland IHC success back in 2010 against Antrim’s St Galls as John Fitzpatrick rolled back the years when coming on as a sub to knock over the insurance point in stoppage time. A fitting end to a record breaking season as St Lachtain’s join many Kilkeny clubs before them in landing junior honours
