After the Kilkenny hurlers ended their league campaign with a win over Limerick last weekend that secured their Division One status, attention will switch to the fortunes of the camogie side as they face Waterford this Saturday.

Tommy Shefflin’s new look team are still on the hunt for a first win after successive losses against Cork, Tipperary and Galway and possible relegation from the top tier looks a possibility at this stage.

The Noresiders currently sit bottom of the table and they will require at least one victory in their final two games if they are to escape the drop.

“The league is all about staying positive and coming out the other side in a better place and try and push on,” Shefflin said after Kilkenny’s most recent defeat to Cork in Pairc Uí Chaoimh.

“Of course we want to stay in the division and we have two big matches to come against Waterford and Dublin and we need to get points on the board there and we’ll just have to treat them as championship games.

“After that we’ve the Leinster and All-Ireland Championship and we know the girls will improve as we get more hurling into them and the conditions improve.”

This weekend’s game with Waterford will tell a lot from a Kilkenny point of view as another loss could see them relegated with a game to spare and even a win won’t assure them of safety.

A Deise success would mean the Cats will be relying on Galway to get at least a draw against Dublin to ensure a shootout final fixture between the Leinster counties to avoid the drop but one thing for certain is that the pressure is certainly building.

A big weekend awaits!
