Mia Griffin will bring the Irish champions jersey for its first outing as she prepares to take on the Giro d'Italia.

The Glenmore cyclist, who came home to win the women's national championships, has been picked as part of a six-strong team for the Giro, which starts today (Sunday) with a 14.2km individual time trial in Bergamo. The eight-stage race runs until July 13 and covers more than 919km.

The Kilkenny cyclist will wear the shamrock with pride from stage two on Monday, which takes the peleton on a 92km route from Clusone to Aprica.

Griffin, who represented Ireland at the Paris Olympics in 2024, will be the first Irish rider to tackle the Giro in over 15 years. Former champion Siobhan Dervan rode the Giro in 2008 and 2009.
