It was disappointment for Mark Power at the Amgen Irish Open in the K-Club as he failed to qualify for the weekend’s action.

The Kilkenny youngster previously finished inside the top 30 at the same venue two years ago but on this occasion, he missed out on the qualifying mark by two shots.

Power got the worst of the weather on the Thursday with his afternoon start arriving amidst heavy rain that even included play being held up for a period of time before he eventually carded a round of 74.

Three bogeys on the front nine and a double bogey coming in made things difficult for the 25 year-old but all wasn’t lost after he carded three birdies in total during his round.

Day two saw him among the early starters, but three bogeys on the first nine put paid to any chance of him making the weekend. However, he briefly gave rise to a late run after fine birdies on 13, 17 and 18.

Attention will now swing to the DP World Tour Qualifying School in the near future as the Kilkenny golfer looks to make a mark around the globe.

Power was one of 11 Irish players on show at the Kildare venue with just Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Alex Maguire and Tom McGibbin competing over all four days.
