MAIN MAN
Anthony Ireland Wall (Danesfort)
The corner-forward has been a leading light throughout this year’s championship campaign and he produced a stunning individual display in Sunday’s final. A 1-7 tally in total including 1-4 from play saw the Kilkenny underage star put the James Stephens defence on the backfoot. There was other notable displays from Paul Murphy, Daire O’Neill, Sam Hayes and Robbie Walsh.
TURNING POINT
Anthony Ireland Wall’s goal in the 50th minute not only levelled up matters but it also gave Danesfort the belief to kick for home and they grasped it with both hands as they outscored their opponents 2-5 to 0-1 going down the straight.
TALKING POINT
The way Danesfort approached the game had the Village on the backfoot from the get-go as they tore into everything all over the field. They brought James Stephens into a battle that they hadn’t faced into all year and that preparation certainly went against them as Adrian Burke’s team seized the opportunity in front of them.
Highlight
It was a thrilling county final that had the crowd on edge all the way through the 60 minutes and the quality was of a very high standard.
WHAT NOW?
Danesfort will now move on to the Leinster Championship where they will face either Cloughbawn or St Mogue’s of Fethard who collide in the Wexford Intermediate decider this Saturday afternoon.
