Shamrocks Ballyhale captain TJ Reid with his team-mates after the senior county final victory over O’Loughlin Gaels on Sunday in Nowlan Park.
Main Man
Joey Holden (Shamrocks Ballyhale)
On a wet and windy, winter type day it was always going to be advantage to the defenders in many ways and nobody showed that more than Shamrocks no.3 Joey Holden. The former Kilkenny star excelled on any ball that came in his direction as he batted away a number of different markers over the course of the afternoon.
Highlight
One can only watch on and admire what Shamrocks Ballyhale have in their armoury. They outgunned and outmuscled O'Loughlin Gaels all over the field and while some of their star players are advancing in years, they still have loads of resolve and fight to keep going.
Lowlight
With so much county stars on show, it was a final that failed to ever catch fire and added to that, there were a couple of flash points that threatened to spill in to the stands with both teams on edge throughout the game.
Talking Point
Unfortunatley for O'Loughlin’s it was a bit like grondhog day to last year’s final defeat to Thomastown as they really struggled to get scores on the board. Of their 12 points on Sunday, only half of them came from play and it’s an aspect of their play that has let them down in the last two seasons.
