Kilkenny greyhound training maestro Paul Hennessy won his first ever English Greyhound Derby on Saturday night.
His greyhound, Jaytee Jet was the only one of the six dogs to go on the outside at the Wimbledon track and it led to him winning narrowly to secure the £150,000 sterling cheque for the winner.
Paul Hennessy has now won the English, Irish and Scottish derbies in a glittering career.
“I thought I’d never win the race,” said the Gowran-based trainer. “It’s great for the team – I have a wonderful team.
“And I have a lot of very special people looking down on us tonight,” he added. “I have no doubt they helped to get that dog over the line.”
