There was great support for the Mount Carmel Classic, which took over Callan GC on Friday and Saturday.
The annual event, which helps raise funds for the Mount Carmel nursing home, drew in more than 240 players over the two days. There were some fantastic scores, but the winners were the in-form quartet of Jeffrey and David Lynch and Denis and Eoin Carey, who finished the champagne scramble with 105pts. Tony Brennan’s team were second, the Pat O’Keeffe team third and Eoin Phelan’s team fourth. Thanks went to all participants and to competition organiser Robert Woodcock.
DRAW - Tickets are still available for the club draw. With a first prize of three years’ membership, tickets cost €50 and are available from the office, tel 056-7725136. The draw will be made this Saturday.
JUNIOR - Fantastic October sunshine greeted golfers who played in the Junior Captains’ prize on Sunday. Winner with a fantastic score of 38pts was Cathal Brett. In second place off the white stakes was John Madigan with 33pts, with Kyle Bergin third on 30pts.
Second off the red stakes was Louise Hennessy on 30pts with Teresa Donnelly third on 26pts. Second off the yellow stakes was Thomas Langton was second off the yellow stakes with 33pts while Laura Phelan was third on 25pts.
Longest drive winners were Cieran Phelan (white), Elle Madigan (red) and Kate O’Brien (yellow).
The Junior Golfer of the Year trophy went to Cathal Brett. The most improved golfers were Cillian Norton and Erin Morrissey.
Incoming Captains for 2017, Cathal Brett and Elle Madigan, were introduced to all who attended the prize-giving ceremony on Sunday evening. In a great year for the juniors, thanks went to all volunteered in the section. Special thanks went to Joseph Cuddihy.

FRIDAY - The Friday social mixed competition continues this week from 5 to 6pm. All are welcome, especially beginners.
LOTTO - There was no winner of the club lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 2, 14, 28. Lucky dip (€30) winners were Breda Bolger, Tom Maher and Rickie Brennan. Sellers were Murt Cuddihy, John Kirwan and Joe Cuddihy. The jackpot is now €4,150.

The month of October will be a busy one at Gowran Park GC with the Golf Membership Series taking centrestage.
The event will feature an open singles competition every week for the month of October, with the top three weekly qualifiers going into the final on Friday, October 28. First prize will be a free golf membership for 2017. Second prize is €200 off a full membership, third prize €100 off full membership.

LEAGUE - After eight rounds of competition the top prize in the nine-hole league was shared by Patrick Hynes and Ger Treacy. The winners finished with 36pts apiece. The presentation of prizes will be made at the gala prize-giving evening on Sunday, December 4. Thanks went to all who supported the competition.

Shaun Hayes (15) was the winner of the Champions Cup at Mountain View GC on Sunday.
Carding a nett 68 Shaun took the spoils on a countback from Seamus O’Brien (19). Colm Hayes (10) was third with 70.
WINTER - Members are reminded that the Winter League begins on October 16. There will be two category groups (handicaps 0 to 17, 18 to 28). The competition will consist of five rounds (all singles) with the best four rounds to count. The top six in each group will compete in the final. Details are available in the clubhouse.
