The elite players’ scratch competition came a gripping conclusion at Callan CG.

The final saw Richard Condon and Jeffrey Lynch go head to head but even after 18 holes the in-form players couldn’t be separated. It wasn’t until the 22nd hole that a winner emerged, Richie edging ahead to take this year’s scratch matchplay title.

The final of the foursomes competition also drew to a conclusion recently, with a fantastic close-fought match between the teams of Nigel Dagg and James Wellwood taking on Jimmy Dunne and Bernard Moore.

This was always going to be a tough, hard fought match with two very strong partnerships pitted against each other. Both had come through some very stiff opposition to reach the final. At the halfway stage it looked as if Nigel and Jim had the upper hand, as they were three up, but Jimmy and Bernard dug deep - some fantastic putting from Jimmy brought them level by the 14th. Winning the next two holes, Jimmy and Bernard needed just a half on the 17th but Nigel and Jim won the hole, leaving the tie down the last. There was no way back for Nigel and Jim, as Bernard and Jimmy took the spoils.
