A first half goal rush inspired Bennettsbridge to a good win over neighbours Danesfort in the second round of the senior hurling league at Nowlan Park this afternoon.
Brian Lennon (2) and Kevin Blanchfield scored good goals as the 'Bridge put a poor opening round performance behind them to claim their first victory.
The strikes by Lennon in the 22nd and 30th minute really took the wind out of the Danesfort sails after they had opened full of promise.
The winners led by 3-7 to 0-9 at the break, which was a fair turn around after the scores had been level three times during the first quarter.
Danesfort chased as good as they could during the second half, but really they never got close to a team who were well served by the pace and ball carrying ability of midfielders, Sean Morrissey and Kevin Blanchfield and deadly free taker, Nicky Cleere.
SCORERS: Bennettsbridge - N. Cleere (0-9); B. Lennon (2-0); K. Blanchfield (1-1); S. Morrissey, K. Brennan, L. Blanchfield (0-1 each). Danesfort - R. Hogan (0-9); R. Walsh (0-2); P. Hogan, C. O'Neill, B. Cullen, C. Phelan, J. Mullally, G. Tynan (0-1 each).
