On Friday night O’Loughlin Gaels GAA club held their annual benefit meeting at Kilkenny greyhound track. Once again there was a huge attendance.
The fastest time of the night was posted by Pookies Plan Cee, an encore from last week. Racing from trap 4 in the a3 contest, Pookies Plan Cee was well away before showing big early to lead around the first bend.
David and Tom Weadick’s son of Makeshift and Heathlawn Gold stormed three lengths clear into the back stretch. Miss Profit chased the leader into the third, but could not get any closer.
Miss Profit did claw back two lengths late on but Pookies Plan Cee was home and hosed by a length in 29.49.
Two youngsters who ran very well on the night were Dixie Dancer and Grading Axis.
The opening race was dominated by Grading Axis. The pace setter got the bend and after some bumping behind skipped seven lengths into the back stretch.
Gone Viral chased down the far side but Grading Axis remained seven lengths to the good. Grading Axis kept clear on the run home and saw off Gone Viral by five lengths in 29.61.
Flew to bend
Flomur Amy flew to the bend in the next one, an a8 race. Dixie Dancer followed Flomur Amy around the first turn and drew level with the early leader coming out of the second.
Dixie Dancer raced two lengths clear into the third, but Flomur Amy wouldn’t go away. Flomur Amy battled back but the Paul Hennessy trained Dixie Dancer saw it out by a length and a half in 29.63.
Acres Hill took the tenth win of his brilliant career in the third contest. The prolific runner led up from trap 4 before clearing three lengths in advance of Larkins Ruby into the second.
Acres Hill motored six lengths clear into the third and had it in the bag. Larkins Ruby ran on late but had to settle for second, four lengths behind Acres Hill in 29.98.
The staying race (725) was level early but it did not stay level for too long.
Pint of Sausages got the bend on the rails before powering five lengths clear into the third. The lead was up to eight lengths by the fourth and then 12 by the fifth.
Liscahane Madi chased Pint of Sausages home but there was no catching the easy winner. Pint of Sausages obliged by ten and a half lengths in 41.46.
The fifth race saw plenty of money for Ballybough Jack. After some early bumping, Vancouver Loke led up on the outer.
There was more bother at the turn before Ballybough Jack shot to the lead. Vancouver Loke showed the pace of the race to draw level with Ballybough Jack into the third.
After drawing level, Vancouver Loke ran wide between the closing two bends, taking Ballybough Jack with him.
This allowed Rathduff Liz up the inner and into the lead. Ballybough Jack came back again but victory went to Rathduff Liz by a half a length in 30.31.
There was a three way go to the bend in the seventh race between Flomur Pete, Usain Colt and Woolie Got Boots.
With space at a premium, Flomur Pete went on to lead Usain Colt by a length at the second corner.
Usain Colt drew level into the third turn before he and Flomur Pete settled down to a titanic struggle. Trumera Quarry came into the frame late on and the three went across the line together.
Victory went to Usain Colt by a neck in front of Flomur Pete in 30.36.
The eighth race saw a level beginning and it was tight into the first bend.
Arcturus Legacy went on along the rails and was three lengths clear of Condor Judy into the second turn.
Condor Judy flew the back stretch to close up on the long time leader.
Condor Judy then tangled with Arcturus Legacy and both their chances were gone.
Tinnock Starikov, trained by David Flanagan, came through to claim an unlikely win by three lengths in 29.84 with Butchersdaughter getting second spot.
Odhrans Girl began well and led early on in the ninth, an a3/a4 contest.
Flew back stretch
After getting the bend, Odhrans Girl went on to lead Snow Arthur out of the second. Bull Run Beauty flew down the back stretch to challenge, but ran into the back of Odhrans Girl out of the third.
Odhrans Girl went on again but Jacks Judge came home with a rattle to get up and win by a length and a half in 29.88.
In race 10 Totos Gift, Lilly Lass and Karlow Rocket all began well.
Karlow Rocket went on from the opening turn and led heading down the back stretch. Bull Run Babe was close to the leader passing the halfway point and turning for home the font pair were all square.
As stamina came into play, Bull Run Babe went on to get the better of Karlow Rocket by three quarters of a length in 29.76.
